It’s late at night and you are diligently searching for interesting co-op roles for the fall term. You have a perfect resume and your cover letter has been reviewed by CBCD – and then you see a note in OSCARplus – Please apply with your resume, cover letter and transcript(s).

What transcript is the employer asking for?

With Phase One recruitment underway, you will most likely be applying for a few roles that request grade submissions. Best practice for this request is to include your first term MBA marks (Fall 2012), as well as your final year of undergraduate studies. This does not require students to upload original, formal university transcripts.

As OSCARplus will only accept one transcript file per application, it is important that you create a single PDF document to include both sets of grades (a chart or list is acceptable, including the course title and your final grade).

But I’ve already submitted applications and only provided my first term MBA marks – what now?

Don’t worry! If an employer comes back to CBCD with a request for any additional grades, you will be notified immediately by email.

LinkedIn may eventually replace resumes. One LinkedIn expert thinks it may even happen this year! Is your profile ready? Use these quick tips to make sure your profile is representing you in the best way possible:

Your headline should tell your story. In as few words as possible (120 character limit). LinkedIn automatically defaults to your current position and company, but you can edit your headline to expand on who you are.

Pay attention to details. If your LinkedIn profile has DeGroote listed as Degroote, then you are giving any potential employers an excuse to move your application to the ‘no’ pile. Not spelling your school name properly translates into not paying attention to details while on the job.

Don’t be afraid to share the same article multiple times. There’s a good chance that your article will reach a different audience the second or third time you post.

Don’t leave your summary blank. This is especially true when you are a student and do not have lots of work experience. People want to know who you are. Share your goals and passions, and what industry you’re targeting and why. More on this way of writing profiles here.

Include your e-mail in your Summary section. The new LinkedIn platform has made it a bit harder to find your contact information (it is now hidden under ‘contact info’). Put your e-mail address directly into your Summary section so people do not have to search for it.

Apps are gone, but you can now upload content such as videos, presentations, case studies, etc. What’s great about this is that it is now attached to a specific job. Must have its own URL or web page (can use YouTube, Google Docs, Scribd, SlideShare, Dropbox).  Access this using the screen icon under the job title when you’re in edit mode.
